The article introduces and studies Hausdorff–Berezin operators on the unit ball in a complex space. These operators are a natural generalization of the Berezin transform. In addition, the class of such operators contains, for example, the invariant Green potential, and some other operators of complex analysis. Sufficient and necessary conditions for boundedness in the space of p – integrable functions with Haar measure (invariant with respect to involutive automorphisms of the unit ball) are given. We also provide results on compactness of Hausdorff–Berezin operators in Lebesgue spaces on the unit ball. Such operators have previously been introduced and studied in the context of the unit disc in the complex plane. Present work is a natural continuation of these studies.

We study the existence of solutions of the semilinear equations (1) in which the non-linearity g may grow superlinearly in u in one of directions u → ∞ and u → −∞, and (2) −Δu + g(x, u) = h, in which the nonlinear term g may grow superlinearly in u as |u| → ∞. The purpose of this paper is to obtain solvability theorems for (1) and (2) when the Landesman-Lazer condition does not hold. More precisely, we require that h may satisfy are arbitrarily nonnegative constants, . The proofs are based upon degree theoretic arguments.

The extended completeness theorem of the predicate calculas of the first order. In section 12, we developed a deductive theory of the first order predicate calculus, while in section II we dealt with the semantic theory of that calculus. We now have to consider the connection between these two theories. We recall that a sentence X can be satisfied by a structure M only if X is defined in M. Given a sentence X (a set of sentences K) we shall say that the structure M is a model of X (of K) if X is (all the sentences of K are) satisfied by M.

Recently, Evans gave an elegant determination of ${{g}_{1}}(12)$ in terms of ${{g}_{1}}(3),\,{{g}_{1}}(4)$ and ${{g}_{1}}(6)$ which resolved a sign ambiguity present in a previous evaluation. Here I generalize Evans' result to give a complete determination of the sum ${{g}_{r}}(12)$.

A ring R (associative ring) is said to be fully ordered provided that R is a linearly ordered set under a relation such that for any a, b and c in R, implies that and if c ε 0 then and . We say a subset K of R is convex provided that if a, b ε K such that then the interval [a, b] is a subset of K. Obviously an additive subgroup K of R is convex if and only if b ε K and b > 0 implies [a, b] ⊆ K.

We characterize two important notions of amenability and compactness of a locally compact quantum group $\mathbb{G}$ in terms of certain homological properties. For this, we show that $\mathbb{G}$ is character amenable if and only if it is both amenable and co-amenable. We finally apply our results to Arens regularity problems of the quantum group algebra ${{L}^{1}}\left( \mathbb{G} \right)$. In particular, we improve an interesting result by Hu, Neufang, and Ruan.

For positive integers s and t, let f(s, t) denote the smallest positive integer N such that every 2-colouring of [1, N] = {1, 2,...,N} has a monochromatic homothetic copy of {1, 1 + s, 1 + s + t}.

We show that f (s, t) = 4(s + t) + 1 whenever s/g and t/g are not congruent to 0 (modulo 4), where g = gcd(s, t). This can be viewed as a generalization of part of van der Waerden’s theorem on arithmetic progressions, since the 3-term arithmetic progressions are the homothetic copies of {1, 1 + 1, 1 + 1 + t}. We also show that f (s, t) = 4(s + t) + 1 in many other cases (for example, whenever s > 2t > 2 and t does not divide s), and that f (s, t) ≤ 4 (s + t) + 1 for all s, t.

Thus the set of homothetic copies of {1, 1 + s, 1 + s + t} is a set of triples with a particularly simple Ramsey function (at least for the case of two colours), and one wonders what other “natural” sets of triples, quadruples, etc., have simple (or easily estimated) Ramsey functions.

We show that closed $\widetilde{\mathbb{S}\mathbb{L}}\,\times \,{{\mathbb{E}}^{n}}$-manifolds are topologically rigid if $n\,\ge \,2$, and are rigid up to $s$-cobordism, if $n\,=\,1$.

Let B be a Boolean algebra and let ℳ and n be two systems of subsets of B, both containing all finite subsets of B. Several authors have treated the question under which conditions there exists an isomorphism φ between B and a field δ of sets, satisfying the conditions:

We shall present examples of Schauder bases in the preduals to the hyperfinite factors of types $\text{I}{{\text{I}}_{1}},\,\text{I}{{\text{I}}_{\infty }},\,\text{II}{{\text{I}}_{\lambda }},\,0\,<\,\lambda \,\le \,1$. In the semifinite (respectively, purely infinite) setting, these systems form Schauder bases in any associated separable symmetric space of measurable operators (respectively, in any non-commutative ${{L}^{p}}$-space).

It is shown that the classical Fourier transform can be extended as an algebra isomorphism onto the algebra of all complex-valued functions, which are measurable and finite a.e., under pointwise addition and multiplication. The extended Fourier transform agrees with the distributional Fourier transform on the space of all distributions which have regular transforms. It is defined on an algebra of Mikusiński-type operators in which multiplication is convolution in the subspace of integrable distributions.

Let (a1, a2, …, am), ai ∊ {l, 2, …, n}, be an m-permutation of n (repetitions allowed) with exactly kj of the a's equal to j, j = 1, 2, …, n, m = k1+ …+kn, fixed nonnegative integers. An inversion is a pair i, j such that i < j, ai > aj. Denote by N(r; k, …, kn) the number of such permutations with exactly r inversions.

There are a number of theories which assign to a function defined on the real line a measure that reflects somehow the variation of that function. The most familiar of these is, of course, the Lebesgue-Stieltjes measure associated with any monotonie function. The problem in general is to provide a construction of a measure from a completely arbitrary function in such a way that the values of this measure provide information about the total variation of the function over sets of real numbers and from which useful inferences can be drawn.

The interesting question of the title was posed by J. Bergen and this note answers it in the negative. The main result characterizes rings which can be a finite union of proper right annihilators, and shows that any such commutative ring must have a total annihilator.
