In this study, we present a comprehensive dual-band ambient radio-frequency (RF) energy harvesting system, consisting of rectenna and power management circuit, to harvest energy from 2.45 and 5.8 GHz Wi-Fi. The rectenna employs a metamaterial antenna based on a split-ring resonator, which possesses omni-directional radiation pattern at both frequencies and compact size (0.18λ × 0.25λ at 2.45 GHz). The dual-band rectifier yields the highest efficiency of 42% at 2.45 GHz and 1 dBm input power, 30% at 5.8 GHz and − 7 dBm input power. The maximum RF-DC efficiency for each band is 72% at − 5 dBm and 27% at − 2 dBm, respectively. The power management circuit, consisting of a storing capacitor and a boost converter, is integrated to produce a stable, sufficient output voltage. The energy harvesting system, with its comprehensiveness, is suitable for supplying low-power wireless sensor nodes for indoor applications.

A microstrip transmission line fed fork-shaped planar antenna is proposed for Bluetooth, WLAN, and WiMAX applications. The antenna made of a microstrip feed line, fork-shape patch on one side and defected ground plane on the other side of dielectric substrate. A fork-shape is formed by two side circular arms and a rectangular central arm. The inverted T-shaped ground plane with a rectangular slot in the center arm is used to increase the bandwidth with better impedance matching of the lower band. The antenna is practically fabricated to validate the design. The antenna resonate dual band to cover an entire the WLAN and WiMAX bands. The antenna shows the measured bandwidth of 410 MHz (2.26–2.67) and 3.78 GHz (3.0–6.78 GHz) at lower and upper bands, respectively.

In this paper, we propose a novel integrated ultra-wideband (UWB) monopole antenna with dual-band antenna. The antenna consists of planar rectangular with semi-elliptical base and a rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) with dual-band operation. Both of them are excited via coplanar waveguide (CPW) lines. The experimental measurements show that the planar monopole provides an impedance bandwidth between 2.44 and 11.9 GHz which largely covers the entire UWB spectrum, and the rectangular DRA operates at two bands; 5.3–6.2 and 8.5–9.4 GHz. Additionally, the proposed structure ensures low mutual coupling between the two ports (with S21 less than −20 dB in the whole operating frequency band). The measured and numerical results show a good agreement.

This paper reports a new compact dual-band axially corrugated profiled horn feed (DBCPH) for prime-focus reflector antenna at C-band (uplink and downlink frequency bands with bandwidth ratio of 1.6). DBPCH consists of one sinusoid profiled section and two internal axial corrugations (internal short-circuited ring slots), for obtaining a multimode horn feed. Such a blended structure is optimized over the specified frequency bands (3.68–3.70 and 5.865–5.915 GHz) to achieve various performance objectives (such as compactness, return loss, polarization purity, etc.). Measured and predicted results show that DBCPH provides better return loss >18.6 dB, low cross-polarization (better than −32 dB), and adequate edge taper at ±48° (8.5–11.7 dB) along with compact size (1.3λ aperture diameter and 0.88λ length at lower frequency). The horn would be used as a feed element for front-fed prime-focus reflector for pencil beam spacecraft antenna application.
