For a large integer $m$, we obtain asymptotic formulae for the number of solutions of certain congruences modulo $m$ with several variables, where the variables belong to special sets of residue classes modulo $m$. In particular, we obtain new information on the exceptional set of the multiplication table problem in the residue ring modulo $m$.

Let $G$ be the abelian Lie group $\mathbb{R}^n\times\mathbb{R}^k/\mathbb{Z}^k$, acting on the complex space $X=\mathbb{R}^{n+k}\times\ri G$. Let $F$ be a strictly convex function on $\mathbb{R}^{n+k}$. Let $H$ be the Bergman space of holomorphic functions on $X$ which are square-integrable with respect to the weight $e^{-F}$. The $G$-action on $X$ leads to a unitary $G$-representation on the Hilbert space $H$. We study the irreducible representations which occur in $H$ by means of their direct integral. This problem is motivated by geometric quantization, which associates unitary representations with invariant Kähler forms. As an application, we construct a model in the sense that every irreducible $G$-representation occurs exactly once in $H$.

In this paper, we obtain some results on the existence of solutions for the system

$$ (-\Delta+q_i)u_i=\mu_im_iu_i+f_i(x,u_1,\dots,u_n)\text{ in }\mathbb{R}^{N},\quad i=1,\dots,n, $$

where each of the $q_i$ are positive potentials satisfying $\lim_{|x|\rightarrow+\infty}q_i(x)=+\infty$, each of the $m_i$ are bounded positive weights and each of the $\mu_i$ are real parameters. Depending upon the hypotheses on $f_i$, we use either the method of sub- and supersolutions or a bifurcation method.

Given two intersecting domains, we investigate the boundary behaviour of the quotient of Martin kernels of each domain. To this end, we give a characterization of minimal thinness for a difference of two subdomains in terms of Martin kernels of each domain. As a consequence of our main theorem, we obtain the boundary growth of the Martin kernel of a Lipschitz domain, which corresponds to earlier results for the boundary decay of the Green function for a Lipschitz domain investigated by Burdzy, Carroll and Gardiner.

The operator Cauchy dual to a $2$-hyperexpansive operator $T$, given by $T'\equiv T(T^*T)^{-1}$, turns out to be a hyponormal contraction. This simple observation leads to a structure theorem for the $C^*$-algebra generated by a $2$-hyperexpansion, and a version of the Berger–Shaw theorem for $2$-hyperexpansions.

As an application of the hyperexpansivity version of the Berger–Shaw theorem, we show that every analytic $2$-hyperexpansive operator with finite-dimensional cokernel is unitarily equivalent to a compact perturbation of a unilateral shift.

We prove the existence and uniqueness of maximizing measures for various classes of continuous integrands on metrizable (non-compact) spaces and close subsets of Borel probability measures. We apply these results to various dynamical contexts, especially to hyperbolic mappings of the form $f_\lambda(z)=\lambda\mathrm{e}^z$, $\lambda\ne0$, and associated canonical maps $F_\lambda$ of an infinite cylinder. It is then shown that, for all hyperbolic maps $F_\lambda$, all dynamically maximizing measures have compact supports and, for all $0^+$-potentials $\phi$, the set of (weak) limit points of equilibrium states of potentials $t\phi$, $t\nearrow+\infty$, is non-empty and consists of dynamically maximizing measures.

blows up are investigated. We assume that $f(s)$ is a decreasing function and that it is integrable in $(0,\infty)$. Considering a suitable functional we prove that for all $\lambda\gt0$ the solution of the Neumann problem blows up in finite time. The same result is obtained for the Robin problem under the assumption that $\lambda$ is sufficiently large $(\lambda\gg 1)$. In the proof of existence of blow-up for the Dirichlet problem we use the subsolution technique. We are able to construct a blowing-up lower solution under the assumption that either $\lambda\gt\lambda^*$ or $0\lt\lambda\lt\lambda^*$, for some critical value $\lambda^*$, and that the initial condition is sufficiently large provided also that $f(s)$ satisfies the decay condition $\int_0^\infty[sf(s)-s^2f'(s)]\,\mathrm{d} s\lt\infty$.

This paper computes the Box and Hausdorff dimensions of the intersections of the Sierpinski carpet with planar lines of rational slopes.

We work with interpolation methods for $N$-tuples of Banach spaces associated with polygons. We compare necessary conditions for interpolating closed operator ideals with conditions required to interpolate compactness. We also establish a formula for the measure of non-compactness of interpolated operators.

We show that if a locally compact group $G$ is non-discrete or has an infinite amenable subgroup, then the second dual algebra $L^1(G)^{**}$ does not admit an involution extending the natural involution of $L^1(G)$. Thus, for the above classes of groups we answer in the negative a question raised by Duncan and Hosseiniun in 1979. We also find necessary and sufficient conditions for the dual of certain left-introverted subspaces of the space $C_b(G)$ (of bounded continuous functions on $G$) to admit involutions. We show that the involution problem is related to a multiplier problem. Finally, we show that certain non-trivial quotients of $L^1(G)^{**}$ admit involutions.

We study the membership of derivatives of Blaschke products in Hardy and Bergman spaces, especially for the the interpolating Blaschke products and for those whose zeros lie in a Stolz domain. We obtain new and very simple proofs of some known results and prove new theorems that complement or extend the earlier works of Ahern, Clark, Cohn, Kim, Newman, Protas, Rudin, Vinogradov and others.

In this paper, we obtain sharp bounds for certain linear combinations of the Faber coefficients of functions $F(z)$ in $S(E_{r})$ and in certain related classes.

We primarily consider here the $L^2$ mapping properties of a class of strongly singular Radon transforms on the Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}^n$; these are convolution operators on $\mathbb{H}^n$ with kernels of the form $M(z,t)=K(z)\delta_0(t)$, where $K$ is a strongly singular kernel on $\mathbb{C}^n$. Our results are obtained by using the group Fourier transform and uniform asymptotic forms for Laguerre functions due to Erdélyi.

We also discuss the behaviour of related twisted strongly singular operators on $L^2(\mathbb{C}^n)$ and obtain results in this context independently of group Fourier transform methods. Key to this argument is a generalization of the results for classical strongly singular integrals on $L^2(\mathbb{R}^d)$.

We study the problem of finding conditions which guarantee that given operator data propagate under the control of unitary operators. This is a kind of moment problem and the way we solve it is based on unitary dilations. Comparing it with other results in this area, our approach has the advantages of

allowing the data to be unbounded operators,

considering arbitrary dilations, not necessarily regular ones.

The relationship between the moment problem and harmonizable multivariate discrete processes is indicated.

Incomplete Bessel functions of general order are defined. Their recurrence relations, integral representations and asymptotics are derived.

In this paper we introduce the specialization of an $S$-module which is a direct limit of a direct system of finitely generated $S$-modules indexed by $\mathbb{N}$. This specialization preserves the Buchsbaum property, the generalized Cohen–Macaulay property and the Castelnuovo–Mumford regularity of a module.

Maximal regularity for an integro-differential equation with infinite delay on periodic vector-valued Besov spaces is studied. We use Fourier multipliers techniques to characterize periodic solutions solely in terms of spectral properties on the data. We study a resonance case obtaining a compatibility condition which is necessary and sufficient for the existence of periodic solutions.

The asymptotic behaviour of a certain integral is investigated. The investigation involves a hypergeometric function of a type for which the asymptotics have not previously been considered.

Let $C^*$-algebras $A$ and $B$ be Morita equivalent and let $X$ be an $A$–$B$-imprimitivity bimodule. Suppose that $A$ or $B$ is unital. It is shown that $X$ has the weak Banach–Saks property if and only if it has the uniform weak Banach–Saks property. Thus, we conclude that $A$ or $B$ has the weak Banach–Saks property if and only if $X$ does so. Furthermore, when $C^*$-algebras $A$ and $B$ are unital, it is shown that $X$ has the Banach–Saks property if and only if it is finite dimensional.

The aim of this paper is to investigate and study the possible spectral pair $(\mu_{M,D},\varLambda(M,S))$ associated with the iterated function systems $\{\phi_{d}(x)= M^{-1}(x+d)\}_{d\in D}$ and $\{\psi_{s}(x)=M^{\ast}x+s\}_{s\in S}$ in $\mathbb{R}^n$. For a large class of self-affine measures $\mu_{M,D}$, we obtain an easy check condition for $\varLambda(M,S)$ not to be a spectrum, and answer a question of whether we have such a spectral pair $(\mu_{M,D},\varLambda(M,S))$ in the Eiffel Tower or three-dimensional Sierpinski gasket. Further generalization of the given condition as well as some elementary properties of compatible pairs and spectral pairs are discussed. Finally, we give several interesting examples to illustrate the spectral pair conditions considered here.
