Hamiltonian Methods in Plasma Physics
The interaction of Hamiltonian mechanics with plasma physics has a long history of important results and in recent years new applications of Hamiltonian methods to plasma physics emerged and are currently experiencing major developments. Structure preserving algorithms for geometric integration, Hamiltonian derivations of plasma physics models as well as Hamiltonian dynamical systems methods to identify transport barriers in chaotic magnetic fields represent just a few examples of such applications.
This special issue aims at collecting papers on related topics such as, for instance : Hamiltonian structures in fluid and kinetic models, instabilities in Hamiltonian systems, structure-preserving geometric algorithms, N-body and statistical approaches, chaos and low-degree of freedom systems, with applications to plasma physics.
