Summary
Most women with epilepsy can have a normal pregnancy without change in seizure control. There is increased risk for some adverse pregnancy outcomes for which women with epilepsy should be followed closely by medical and obstetrical teams. Increased drug clearance is observed for several anti-seizure medications (ASM) during pregnancy. Therapeutic drug monitoring is recommended to guide dose adjustments of ASM to maintain seizure control. This chapter discusses how seizure management may be optimized.
