Summary

I first visited Myanmar in 1974 and managed to see this stunningly beautiful country even though internal travel was limited to a few ancient trains, some buses and run-down hotels. The floor of the YMCA and a church hall were offered as accommodation by kind but puzzled people, as only a handful of other Westerners visited Myanmar at that time.
