Summary
Col. Hans Behre.
4.3.43/4. Warwick. Thanks for your news in your last letter. I intend by break of day to advance to Stratford-on-Avon with my whole troop and when opportunity offers shall advance further. During my abode at Stratford continue your correspondence. (A.5.)
Major John Bridges.
4.3.43/4. Warwick Castle. I have little news more than the enclosed. The enemy rise very strong in Gloucs. still and I believe Maj. Gen. Behre will stay for further orders. (A.5.)
Col. Hans Behre.
6.3.43/4. Stratford-on-Avon. I received your kind letter at 12 o’ clock at Stratford-on-Avon where I lie to take my opportunity. I intend to march tomorrow morning. The enemy are retreated from Kempton and lie at Winchcombe and Shatley Bassell, but Prince Rupert is for certain still at Shrewsbury. So soon as I advance I shall give you advertisement. Continue your correspondency. (A.7.)
Lt. Gen. Oliver Cromwell.
8.3.43/4. [? Padbury.] Requests that 300 foot shall march to Buckingham. (A.10. Ellis, p. 225 and Abbott. 1, p. 276.)
Lt. Gen. Oliver Cromwell to [? Luke].
9.3.43/4. It is my Lord’s pleasure that the prisoners be hastened to Cambridge. (A. 12.)
[?]
10.3.43/4. New Style. Leyden. I intend to make a step over to the Hague and to inform myself of Swedish affairs from the Swedish agent lately arrived, whose son was my fellow-traveller in Italy. This week reports are divers and uncertain. The Swedes’ enterprise on Funen Island is protracted by the ice, in lieu whereof they have seized on 24 Danish ships which came, richly laden out of Spain, unwittingly into a harbour possessed by the Swedes. They talk already of sending some regiments back again into Silesia and Moravia to help their garrisons. Torstensson has also ordered Konigsmarck to assist the Landgrave of Hesse in case the Emperor fall on him. Rakockcy his army into Hungary with his Transylvanians is confirmed for certain without any mention of the Turks as you desired. The Imperial and Spanish ambassadors who have expected the French and States ambassadors divers months at Munster are upon the point to make protestation against them and to depart.
