Antonín Vězda studied lichenized fungi for over 50 years as evidenced by his curriculum vitae in, for example, Černohorský (Reference Černohorský1980), Pišút (Reference Pišút1990, Reference Pišút2001), Farkas et al. (Reference Farkas, Lücking and Wirth1995) and Poelt (Reference Poelt1995). He was employed at the Institute of Botany of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in Průhonice from 1963, but his working place was his home in Brno where within the confines of a cooperative apartment he managed to house and maintain his large herbarium. In 2008, Vězda moved the main part of his collections (see below) to the newly established herbarium at the Institute of Botany (PRA). He kept his collections of foliicolous lichens at home and worked on them until his death on 10 November, 2008. Vězda's herbarium (c. 325 000 specimens) is now housed in PRA as a separate collection (PRA-V) and it is gradually being catalogued and labels are being scanned. All documentation will be accessible online on the web-pages of the Institute (http://www.ibot.cas.cz). Unfortunately, the PRM herbarium (Mycological Department of the National Museum in Prague) is named as the location of some holotypes in the publication by Halda & Vězda (Reference Halda and Vězda2007), reflecting Vězda's original intentions for deposition of his collection. However, he changed his mind after the Institute of Botany in Průhonice (PRA) established its official herbarium with modern equipment. Therefore, only isotypes in the exsiccate series are housed in PRM and all holotypes are at present in PRA. The gift deed confirming the housing of all of Vězda's herbarium collection in PRA was signed on 3 August, 2006. Moving the herbarium from Brno to Průhonice two years later was realized in three steps. The first two stages occurred during A. Vězda's life in 2008, and the third and last part was moved to PRA in 2009. Some of the type specimens are in a separate collection of types in A. Vězda's herbarium, some are in parcels pertaining to genera in his general collection. Other type specimens are in the exsiccate series Lichenes selecti and Lichenes rariores.

While working on a project on type specimens from the Czech Republic (see below for details of the project), two specimens (located in different parcels, see above) each, of four species were found labelled by A. Vězda with red labels “HOLOTYPUS” glued on the envelopes. Lectotypes, therefore, must be selected for the following species, all described by A. Vězda: Catillaria byssacea, Forssellia umbilicata, Lecidea flavosorediata and L. praecox. Type material of all named species was issued in the exsiccate Lichenes selecti and the location of holotypes is always “herb. Vězda” according to the protologues. Three specimens selected here as a lectotype are in exsiccate envelopes with the original printed label, the specimen of L. flavosorediata is in an original envelope with a typed label; all envelopes are rubber-stamped “Herbarium A. Vězda”. All isolectotypes formerly labelled as “holotypes” are in the exsiccate envelopes that are not rubber-stamped.
