This brief but informative book by Harry Mond and Peter Karpawich reviews the basics of transvenous and epicardial pacing in the normal heart, and a number of circumstances when pacing is necessary in the adult patient with congenital cardiac disease. The book has many informative diagrams and figures, which should be very helpful to the practitioner who is less experienced in dealing with patients with congenital cardiac disease. Further, the chapters are organized to allow the practitioner to review information which specifically addresses the clinical conditions with which they may currently be dealing. The book might be improved somewhat by more tabular summaries of the key points for each chapter, rather than being primarily made up of text. On the whole, nonetheless, the book is a useful contribution for the practitioner dealing with arrhythmias in adult patients with congenital cardiac disease or vascular anomalies.
