As part of the 2003 Annual Meeting in Denver, the WPSA presented awards to these outstanding scholars and students.

Pi Sigma Alpha Award, for the best paper at the 2002 WPSA meeting, to Daniel Engster, University of Texas at San Antonio, for his paper “Can Care Ethics be Institutionalized? Toward a Caring Theory of Natural Law.”

WPSA Dissertation Award, for the best dissseration completed in 2002, to Randa Carolyn Issa, for her dissertation “Constituting Popular Sovereignty: Contests Over Institutional Authority in the Early American Republic.”

Blacks and Politics Award, for the best paper on blacks and politics, to Linda Lopez, APSA, and Adrian D. Pantoja, University of Connecticut, for their paper “Beyond Black and White: A Comparative Analysis of Anglo, African American, and Latino Support for Racial Hiring and Promotion Preferences.”

Chicanas/Chicanos and Politics Award, for the best paper on Chicanas/Chicanos and Politics, to Melissa Michelson, California State University, Fresno, for her paper “Getting Out the Latino Vote: How Door-To-Door Canvassing Influences Voter Turnout in Rural Central California.”

Charles Redd Award, for the best paper on the politics of the American West, to Diane-Michele Prindevelle, New Mexico State University, for her paper “Feminist Nations? A Study of Native American Women in Tribal Politics.”

Betty Nesvold Award, for the best paper on the politics of women and politics, to Ange-Marie Hancock, Pennsylvania State University, for her paper “Intersectionality, Critical Theory and Research Methodology.”

Political Research Quarterly Award, for the best article published in PRQ in 2002, to Lisa Schur, Rutgers University, Todd Shields, University of Arkansas, Douglas Kruse, Rutgers University, and Kay Schriner, University of Arkansas, for their paper “Enabling Democracy: Disability and Voter Turnout” (March 2002).
