APSA enjoys reciprocal relationships with other national Political Science Associations, one of which is the Political Studies Association (PSA). Founded in 1950, PSA is the UK's leading association in the field, with an international membership that includes academics in political science and current affairs, theorists, practitioners, policy makers, researchers, and students.
The APSA-PSA relationship remains active. Two representatives from APSA, Executive Director Michael Brintnall and 2001–2002 APSA President Robert Putnam, attended the 2003 PSA conference at Leicester University. Most recently, APSA and PSA jointly sponsored a panel comprised of PSA members at the 2003 APSA Annual Meeting in Philadelphia.

Matthew Flinders, University of Sheffield, shakes hands with 2003 PSA Conference Plenary Speaker Robert Putnam, Harvard University.
Preparations for PSA's 54th Annual Conference, which will be held April 5–8, 2004 at the University of Lincoln and will feature speakers Peter Kellner and Robin Cook, are now well under way. Notable lecturers will include Adam Przeworski—presenting the new Government and Opposition/Leonard Schapiro Annual Lecture in Comparative Politics, this year entitled “Institutions Matter?”— and Professor Paul Wilkinson—on Human Rights and Terrorism. Austin Mitchell will also speak at the Annual Conference Dinner.
The 2004 PSA Conference will be hosted by Lincoln University at their new campus at Brayford Pool, adjacent to the Lincoln city center. The Conference boasts one of the world's largest annual gatherings of political scientists, commentators, and practitioners, with around 400 delegates from the UK and overseas, and offers a diverse range of research papers in approximately 130 panel sessions. The Conference will also feature symposia and roundtable discussions and debates. More information on the Conference and the PSA is available at PSA's web site: http://www.psa.ac.uk/. If you are interested in contacting counterparts in the PSA to discuss joint research or activities, APSA staff can assist; contact international@apsanet.org for more information.
The New International Section
Beginning with this issue, PS will include a more pronounced international section featuring discussions of APSA international contacts and programs, brief articles by members and invited contributors, news items, and a series of profiles of other national political science associations. APSA's renewed emphasis on the international aspects of the profession gives members greater insight into the state of the discipline outside the United States. It also highlights the important role played in APSA by our international members as well as the importance of international ties, research, and collaboration to the Association.
This issue provides overviews of APSA's ongoing exchange programs with the British Political Studies Association (PSA) and the Japanese Political Science Association (JPSA). In addition, APSA's international membership is also highlighted—a reference point soon to be a regular feature on the APSA web site—along with other easily accessible information regarding international associations, meetings, and journals.
Through this forum, APSA makes an important contribution to the global integration of the discipline. We encourage your feedback, as well as suggestions regarding future feature topics in the international section of PS, at international@apsanet.org.
Sincerely,
Bahram M. Rajaee, Director, Institutional Research and Support APSA
