For International Women’s Day, we have put together a special collection of recent Nationalities Papers articles that celebrates the diverse and impactful roles of women across different contexts and struggles.
The relationship between gender and nationalism is explored in many research articles in our journal. From examining feminist perspectives on Pussy Riot to exploring gender work and economic restructuring in a Ukrainian village, these articles offer diverse perspectives on women’s experiences, struggles, and achievements.
Articles investigating the endurance of marginalized Hindu and Sikh women in Afghanistan, the collective identity of Serbian feminist anti-military group Women in Black, and the construction of social authority by women in Kyrgyzstan offer insights into the intersection of gender, nationalism, and resistance. Other articles explore women's suffrage and political participation in Poland, the politics of dress in contemporary Kyrgyzstan, memories of Latvian women in the Red Army, and the changing gender roles of Chechen women in the context of war and exile. Together with other contributions, they highlight some of the diverse experiences and challenges faced by women across different cultures and historical periods..
Where not open access, these articles are available free of charge until the end of March 2024.
