In the following list of 36 lives, with a range in ages frdm 56 to 89, the average age is 71.0 years. The average of 460 lives noticed in this Magazine since 1877 is 65.9 years ; and in the six numbers of this series since 1919 there has been a gradual and steady increase from 63.6 to 71.0.

Particulars respecting Czech, Italian, Japanese, and Russian subjects have been kindly supplied by Professors F. Slavlk, G. R. Levi, R. Ōhashi, and Mr. S. I. Tomkeieff respectively, and to these colleagues I express my thanks.

Fluorite is by no means a common mineral in Scotland, and Scottish specimens, with the exception of those from Craigmuschat quarry, Gourock, Renfrewshire, arc very rarely to be seen in collections. In the following notes an account is given of some of the more remarkable occurrences visited by the writer in the summer of 1934. Others recorded by M. F. Heddle were also visited and are mentioned, although they no longer yield specimens.

Early in the summer of 1930 there was exposed in the Parkgate Seam, No. 3 Pit of the Manvers Main colliery, Wath-upon- Dearne, near Rotherham, Yorkshire, a large cavity lined with exceedingly beautiful crystals of baryte ; this being the first occurrence of the kind recorded in the south Yorkshire coalfield. The cavity was quickly more or less completely wrecked by the miners, when fortunately my friend, Mr. C. P. Finn, the Company's chemist, had his attention drawn to the matter, and as a result some brief notes on the occurrence, accompanied by a photograph of a specimen, were published by him. Thanks to the efforts of Mr. Finn, and as the result of visits to the colliery, I was able to obtain some very fine and interesting specimens of the mineral.

In October 1875 the late J. G. Goodchild recorded his then recent discovery of a mineral which he stated 'he believed' to be wulfenite and which he had found on an old mine dump near Carrock Fell, Troutbeck, Cumberland. One specimen only was, I believe, found by Mr. Goodehild, and this he presented to the Carlisle Museum, where it has been seen by myself, the label bearing the more precise locality of Brandy Gill.

Ettringite was the name given by J. Lehmann in 1874 to minute, transparent, acicular crystals lining the cavities of metamorphosed limestone-inclusions in leucite-nepheline-tephrite from the Ettringer-Bellerberg, near the village of Ettringen (between Mayen and the Laacher See), Rhineland. Lehmann detached sufficient needles from the limestone for chemical analysis, and found that they were not gypsum, as formerly supposed, but a hydrated calcium sulphoaluminate.
