During 2005, Professor Johnstone will be processing new submissions, while I put together the last issues containing articles developed under my editorship. Issues through Volume 35(1) will be processed by my office. Professor Johnstone and I will be in consultation on the selection of referees and on other editorial matters during late Fall, 2004, anticipating the shift of the editorial process from my hands to hers.

It has been a great privilege and pleasure to edit Language in Society, and I thank all of the many authors, book reviewers, referees, members of the Editorial Board, and members of the editorial staff at Cambridge University Press who have helped me during the 5 years of my editorship. I look forward to reading Professor Johnstone's issues, and join all of you in welcoming her as Editor-in-Chief.
