This special issue on Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) is composed of papers previously published in the Journal of the International Neuropsychological Society , with an introduction by internationally recognized neuropsychologists Mark Bondi and Glenn Smith, who are experts in normal aging, mild cognitive impairment, and dementia. Their introduction delineates the challenges of accurately diagnosing mild cognitive impairment, and the advantages of utilizing detailed neuropsychological measures rather than screening tests to make such diagnoses – especially given their enhanced association with biomarkers. Finally, this set of papers includes research that documents functional deficits in MCI, which is a challenge to the differential diagnosis of MCI and dementia.
