michelle bezark is a doctoral candidate at Northwestern University. Her work focuses on questions of state-building, federalism, and law in society. She has received a number of fellowships and grants for her work, including from the Doris Duke Foundation, the American Society for Legal History, and the Dirksen Congressional Center. .

ryan burke is Associate Professor and Curriculum Director in the Department of Military & Strategic Studies at the US Air Force Academy. He is a Non-Resident Fellow with the Modern War Institute at West Point and a veteran Marine Corps officer. He writes widely on defense policy and military affairs for various online and academic venues. .

will cooley is a historian of the twentieth-century United States. His work has appeared in the Journal of Social History, the Journal of Urban History, the Journal of Sport and Social Issues, Labor History, The Oxford Handbook on Immigration and Ethnicity, Labor, and Building the Black Metropolis. His book, Moving Up, Moving Out: The Rise of the Black Middle Class in Chicago, was published by Northern Illinois University Press in 2018. .

drew vandecreek is Director of Digital Scholarship at Northern Illinois University Libraries. He is a graduate of the College of Wooster and holds a Ph.D. in American History from the University of Virginia. .
