This volume offers a comprehensive review of the topic of plant propagation, a subject that is complex and relies, in many cases, on the skill of the practitioner for success. The volume comprises 43 chapters, covering 14 aspects of the entire propagation process and related activities. The chapters are clearly structured and the concepts within fully described at the start of each. Several of the review chapters, for example those on plant growth regulators and sexual reproduction in angiosperms, would be useful as introductory reading for plant science or horticulture students. Individual chapters, as is often the case with multi-authored volumes, vary in quality and detail. However, all the techniques of propagation are covered in descriptive chapters, and the volume also includes some less technical overviews which provide some interesting information on how other technologies may impact on the processes of propagation. The quality of illustrations (which are black and white only) could have been improved and the figures are also of variable quality. There is, however, a DVD that accompanies the book and provides some additional information for most chapters. Also, the suggested reading lists provided in the book complement the comprehensive information contained within the volume. Overall, this is a useful and extensive reference work of clear practical use to those involved in the plant propagation industry, and also to those involved in research into plant regeneration.
