In our paper (Panayiotou & Humphrey, Reference Panayiotou and Humphrey2017) reference is made to a study by Deighton et al (in press). In our paper we refer to Deighton's study as having found gender differences in developmental cascades (p.3, para 4 and p.11, para 5). At the time our manuscript was written, these statements were wholly accurate. However, in the final stages of revision to the Deighton et al manuscript, made after the publication of our paper, changes were made to analytical procedures following a request from one of the British Journal of Developmental Psychology's reviewers. These changes produced significant changes in findings, such that the gender differences initially established by Deighton et al were no longer evident. This impacts our paper inasmuch as it is now the only developmental cascade paper to our knowledge that has established clear gender differences in developmental cascades between externalising problems, internalising symptoms, and academic attainment. Accordingly, our findings contrast with those of Deighton et al, as opposed to aligning with them. We would like to apologise for any misunderstanding this may have caused.
