1 The two maps are not numbered, and that referred to as ‘ Map 1’ in Appendix 1 (‘ The monuments of Roman Sparta’) is in fact the second map (on pp. 214–15). On the other map (p. xiii) three sites have no names (they are Thalamai, Helos, and Zarax). An extensive corrigenda sheet lists errors not noticed at proof stage, some of them serious.
