Let $n$ be a positive integer. A
$C^{\ast }$-algebra is said to be
$n$-subhomogeneous if all its irreducible representations have dimension at most
$n$. We give various approximation properties characterising
$n$-subhomogeneous
$C^{\ast }$-algebras.
