Tim Cain has taught music to pupils from 5 to 19. He has been head of music in two comprehensive schools and is currently lecturer in education at the University of Southampton where he co-ordinates the teacher training course for secondary music. His publications include Keynote: Music to GCSE and Fanfare: Music for KS2 both published by Cambridge University Press.

Petter Frost Fadnes is Course Leader for MA Jazz and MA Music at Leeds College of Music. He is an established saxophone player and composer, co-leading the Norwegian-based Kitchen Orchestra and performing regularly with the critically acclaimed quartet Metropolis and many other groups. He is a Visiting Research Fellow at School of Music, University of Leeds; a founding member of Group for Research in Improvised Music (GRIM); and a founder and Board member of Leeds Improvised Music Association (LIMA).

Scott Harrison is Lecturer in Music and Music Education at Griffith University, focusing on pre-service teacher education. Prior to his appointment at Griffith University, he was Head of Music Theatre and Lecturer in Singing at Central Queensland University. He also maintains contact with school-age activities through vocal tuition and ensemble direction in Griffith University's Young Conservatorium. His main research interests are in gender in music education, music and health, teacher education, choral and vocal training.

Catherine Parsonage is Head of the Centre for Jazz Studies at Leeds College of Music. Her book The Evolution of Jazz in Britain, 1880–1935 was published by Ashgate in 2005. She has recently been awarded an Edison Fellowship at the British Library National Sound Archive. Catherine is co-editor of the Jazz Research Journal (formerly The Source) and is a member of the editorial boards of Jazz Perspectives and Studies in Musical Theatre.

Avra Pieridou-Skoutella lectures in music education and ethnomusicology at Arte Music Academy in Nicosia. She has completed a PhD in Music Education at the Institute of Education, University of London under the supervision of Prof Lucy Green. Her research interests include early childhood and elementary music education practices, musical identities, children's musical play and contextual musical practices and multiculturalism.

Jane Southcott is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Education, Monash University. As a narrative historian, her main research focus is the history of the music curriculum in Australia, America and Europe; she also researches experiential education, cultural identity and performance anxiety. Dr Southcott is President of the Australian Association for Research in Music Education and is a member of the editorial boards of international and national refereed journals. She is currently completing a biography of Sarah Anna Glover (1786–1867).

James Taylor is a Lecturer at Leeds College of Music, where he co-ordinates several modules across the HE curriculum. He has given research papers on two occasions at the Leeds International Jazz Conference (2000 and 2004). He is also an experienced clinician and private instrumental tutor outside LCM. Alongside teaching, James also maintains a busy performing schedule as a jazz guitarist and has worked with many leading UK musicians.
