Summary
The chapter discusses the spread of jihadi Salafi activity in sub-Saharan Africa. The chapter introduces the two research questions that are at the heart of this study: Which state strategies prevent or curb homegrown jihadi Salafi organizations? Which state strategies enable the emergence and foster the subsequent growth of such groups? The chapter outlines the basic theoretical premises and findings of the book.
