Summary
A statement of the expenses of the navigation from June 1696 to July 1697.
[Among the Francklin MSS. are a number of documents relating to the expenses of the navigation between 1696 and 1730. These include receipts for taxes paid, bills for labour and materials, and some general statements of expenditure. These documents are clearly incomplete for most of the years to which they refer. The following statement of expenditure for the period from June 1696 to July 1697, which is among these documents, may not be a complete account of the expenses, but it illustrates both the type and cost of repair work which the maintenance of the navigation involved and the kind of annual payments for taxes, salaries, etc., which the proprietors had to meet. It will be noticed that some of the payments are given in full and others represent only half the actual amount paid.]
“An account of the money disbursed by esquire Jemmatt as well of that esquire Ashley is to pay the half of as of that esquire Jemmatt paid only his half or share.
