Summary

The Koiné elements of Islam are those aspects that are shared by Muslims of most ranks and locations – the five pillars, the concepts of Qurʾān and the life of the Prophet, sharīʿah, and Islam itself. These concepts are not Islam’s essence but are themselves appropriated; they do not comprise an essence but are only a set of shared practices and concepts.
